Saturday May 12 - We began our trip to CWSF 2018 bright and early Saturday morning. Our flight left Winnipeg and landed in Ottawa and then it was off on a bus to Carlton University. Once settled we went out for a walk with another group to find some lunch. We explored the Rideau Canal and the students did some pin trading with other finalists! After supper we walked back to the Rideau Canal and then down to Dow's Lake; it was a beautiful evening! We'll be up early tomorrow for breakfast and then off to see the exhibit hall and set up projects!

Sunday May 13 - Up early and off to breakfast, then to the exhibit hall for project set up and safety checks. In the afternoon we went for a walk to the see The Tulip Legacy...beautiful! In the evening we got to visit the Canadian Science and Technology Museum, and attend the Opening Ceremonies! Finalists are looking forward to sharing their projects with the judges tomorrow and we are all looking forward to the 'night at the museum'!

Monday May 14 - Judging day! Finalists were dressed to impress and ready to show off their projects. After a long day of judging we enjoyed a poutine bar and sundae bar with the rest of the finalists, and then it was off to 'Night at the Museum'!

Tuesday May 15 - We had a FANTASTIC day in Ottawa! We started with breakfast on campus (after doing a radio interview with CKLQ). Then we were bussed to the Canada Museum of Aviation and Space, we explored for a short time then caught the shuttle to Sussex Dr. We walked across the Alexandria Bridge into Quebec and then headed to the Justice Building to meet Larry Maguire’s staff member Drew who took us on an Amazing Tour of Parliament! We got to see and learn so much there! Drew left us to explore the Peace Tower then we walked to the ByWard Market, had some food, did some shopping and finished with frozen yogurt! Next we walked to the War Memorial and then to city hall. All CWSF participants walked together from city hall to the University of Ottawa where we had supper and participated in Lab Experiences (3D Printing, Chemistry, and Robotics to name a few)! Back at campus the finalists visited with new friends, played an intense game of Uno and did some late night pin trading! We are looking forward to a day of STEM activities and public viewing tomorrow!

Wednesday May 16 - Today was public viewing, school viewing, and STEM! Also, the finalists were treated to a 'surprise' was magician Eric Leclerc putting on a great show!

Thursday May 17 - Thursday was more public viewing and STEM expo, and then awards ceremony and banquet! EXCITING NEWS...Congrats to Amy Gudmundson who won a gold excellence award in the junior category! This is the first gold medal for a WMSF finalist! After the ceremony it was off to the awards banquet and dance.

Friday May 18 - Friday morning was the last round of Public viewing. We also got to watch interviews with the Platinum award winners. Then it was project take down, and then off for one last adventure! We had a great afternoon exploring the Byward Market, taking in some amazing views of Parliament Hill, walking across the Alexandria Bridge, and having supper in Gatineau!
